poor old gran
sitting in her rocking chair
embroidering duchess sets
crocheting doilies
that no one in the family wanted
expendable
(like her)
they end up in a thrift shop for a dollar
alongside the memory quilts and photos
collateral damage
from the present ugly and unfeeling dark age
Midweek Motif - PU
Such a shame when all that passion and hard work becomes discarded
ReplyDeleteI will never understand how people can let go (or worse, throw away) touched memories. That thread remembers old gran’s fingers, the intensity of her eyes, her love... so many treasures. A shame, indeed, to see throw them away.
ReplyDeleteI remember those beautiful doilies on chair arms....and the homemade quilts. I wish I had one of them now. They were WARM, unlike the synthetic stuff that passes for bedding now. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteMy gran was the same, Rall. It's such a shame that people no longer appreciate handcrafts.
ReplyDeleteSome treasures aren't treasured enough. I have a table cloth made from squares crocheted by one grandmother and then pieced together by the other. I shudder to think one day it might be unwanted.
ReplyDeleteBeing old and with a lot of stuff I am sorry that so much of my bits and pieces will go to thrift shops or the tip but not sure what will happen to the 500 books!
ReplyDeleteThose were the dsys when doilies duch as those proudly sat on the bureau.Happy you dropped by my blog Rall
ReplyDeleteMuch❤🕊❤🕊
"the present ugly and unfeeling dark age"...here we live. Sigh....
ReplyDeleteSo much from the past goes unappreciated...
ReplyDeleteHow sad! We should appreciate these things far more.
ReplyDeleteI wish people could see beauty in its various forms.. sadly handcrafts is a fading art.. this is beautifully poignant!💖💖
ReplyDeleteSad truth. Even here, I look that much I have done that not even I still value.
