OctPoWrimo _ Days 27 - 31

Day 27

How did I get here?

my father used to say
at the end of world war 2
when he stumbled out of the jungle
my mother was the first woman
he clapped eyes on
he was joking ( i think )

Day 28

Mending the Broken Places

when your ego is battered and bruised
when you are past your expiry date
tossed away like a sucked orange
you need a kind loving person
to mend your spirit
bring light back into your life
this is not always possible
so
get yourself a big squidgy ginger cat
write poetry  listen to music
cultivate a small herb pot garden
live  by the sea  swim with the fish
enjoy watching  the wonders of nature
at the beach

(the lifeguard is a very interesting species to observe)

Day 29

Lightness Of Being

not much lightness
in being these days
in fact
quite unbearably weighty with problems
still
believe it or not
there has never been a better time
in human history to be alive

Day 30

 Me or Who am I

i am solitary
a bit of a hermit

i am happiest swimming in the sea
or writing poems
i am out of step with the modern age
a dinosaur
an anachronism

in the grand scheme of things
my significance amounts to nought
i am but a mere grain of sand in a vast desert

but having said that
out of the 6 billion people on this planet
no one marinates olives better than i do

Day 31

Finding Peace

my grandfather used to say
the most important thing in life
is to be able to sleep soundly at night
with a clear conscience

he set that example
for all of us
a simple gentle soul
who fought in 2 world wars
and slept like a log

Thank you, Morgan Dragonwillow, Michelle Vecchitto, Esther Jones, and Maria L. Berg for hosting this month-long poetry challenge.

      2. Absolutely! Each one of us has to find what works.

      4. I love your advice for mending the broken pieces. If I received more advice of this nature, I might not react to prompts like "mending the broken pieces" with "No! You can't make me! I'm going to go sit by a mausoleum in the rain and brood now, and you can't stop me!"
Prompts like that one always make me want to write something dark and awful. My inner 17-year-old goth metalhead boils to the surface every time.

      5. Humor and insight and a wry acceptance of self shine through these poems. I have enjoyed reading your work, even when the prompts take us to dark places. Your poems show courage. Thank you!

      7. You are an amazing poem. I loved every poem of yours. Might have not commented on some, but have almost read all. Today's poem is so full of life. Your sense of humour is contagious :)

      8. Haha! We all have that one speciality that sets us apart! Your sense of humour is on par with your marinated olives, I bet!

      9. "I'm solitary, a bit of a hermit."
Me too, and I'm no longer going to apologize for it.
Also, your grandfather sounds like a fine man and a bit of a similar personality to my great-grandfather, who was a Lieutenant in the Czar's army. He and his brothers jumped on a boat out of Russia with bullets flying at them. When he came to the United States, he became a butcher. During the Depression, he gave meat to families who wouldn't pay with a promise that they'd pay him when they could. He said they all paid eventually. He was a stern, old-world fellow but with a compassionate heart.

      11. I love mending the broken places - best advice ever, getting a big squidgy ginger cat. I am solitary, too. A peaceful state of being. I loved these.

      13. I so much enjoyed each of these, in different ways, most of all the final one about your grandfather.

      14. These are terrific..
        but having said that
out of the 6 billion people on this planet
no one marinates olives better than i do

see everyone should have that one thing to think about by the sea when there's nothing else!

      15. We all have some positive form of motivation and light. We need to be open to find and accepting of it..Loved your many poetic gifts!
