i remember this
twas in the winter of my youth
we sometimes used to share a tipple of sherry downstairs
with Mrs Parkes our landlady on a friday night
she was the proud president of the paddington geranium society
the world seemed kinder back then
you were kinder back then too

The nostalgia in your poem is palpable .... I love it.
ReplyDeleteYou poem reminds me of how I used to think that saying things were easier or better or "kinder back then" was just a trick of perspective. These days I'm not so sure...
ReplyDeleteyes, this is so nostalgic. it was certainly a much simpler time then. no social media, just a bunch of us chilling over music and a beer.
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for the Alan Parsons Project song.
I love your re-creation of that vignette from the past, and your killer last line. You are a master of the powerful throwaway.
ReplyDeleteLoved the video, particularly the stunning visuals.
Love this! Big Hugs!
ReplyDeletePerhaps it is good to have a few extra friends so losing some hurts less!
