AN EAR FOR WILD LANGUAGE

song birds abound

down here

awakened every morning

by  the currawongs

a nice start

before watching

the bad news of the day

 butcher birds

part of the drama queen  bird brigade

of  screeching cockatoos and laughing  kookaburras

always rattling on about something or other

sing different songs in different regions

it's possible that this constant caterwauling

has forged the australian identity

bird songs trapped in the national psyche

one needs an ear for wild language

and wild everything

especially if you live

down under

  1. What a GLORIOUS post this is. I LOVE hearing the birdsongs you get to listen to, so different from the ones I hear in B.C.. Loved seeing them too. Thank you so much. I really enjoyed your poems, especially with the birds singing all the way through the read. Smiles. I am forwarding this link to my poet friend who lives on a floathouse up the Sound. She adores birds too and will love these.

  4. Listening to your bird song videos is sheer delight and made me smile. The first video reminded me of the song "Singing in The Rain". :)
