Earthweal Weekly Challenge...

is  that watermelon ice i see in the distance?

not a good omen

what is on that ice floe over  there?

oh a couple of geriatrics who have reached their use by date

didn't know they were  still  allowed to do that

i am suddenly realising that this is a dangerous world for a bear

don'r know what i can do about it

our only hope is for some kindly humans

to save us

we must learn to

scratch SOS into the ice

then they will  think we're cute

may  give us a better chance

our almost extinct koala cousins

are having some success with emphasisng

the cuddly cute factor

 although

cuddling a polar bear is not that easy

  1. I love this poem, as spoken by the bear. Resonate with the irony of them scratching SOS into the ice so we'll think they're cute. Really, I dont know what it will take for world leaders to wake up if the melting ice, floods and wildfires arent speaking to them. They only know the language of money. False gods.

  2. We can become the spirit familiars of a vanishing apex predator tribe. May be just as difficult as hugging polar bears, but what else are we gonna do?

  3. Even cute doesn't seem to work anymore (see children all over the world)--kindly is way less than enough.

  4. The almost cheery tone only serves to emphasise the sad truths.

  5. I am willing to wager a polar bear would allow me to cuddle with him/her. Cheers.

  7. We need humans that are both clever and kind to convince the ones that aren't naturally kind too.

  8. What IS that red ? Global warming (extreme weather) throughout earth's entire existence must have been (will be) traumatizing for all living creatures here on earth. This isn't the only time it has happened!

  9. This is so very sad. The crimson ice left me shivering with dread.

  10. This is more powerful through the use of the polar bear's voice. I wish I could hug every one of them.
