I like your use of the words. Donkeys do seem to keep it humble, don't they? No prancing about, just getting the jobs done. Dependable.
ReplyDeleteThe donkey is a symbol of doing the hard work that must be done in a fashion that is not glamorous but steadfast and true.
ReplyDeleteEverybody talks about how majestic horses are. But your poem says it well, there is... something about the humble, hardworking donkey that makes it a rather special creature.
ReplyDeleteI've never had much to do with donkeys – well nothing, really – yet I come across them so often in stories, including most of all the Biblical one, that I feel I can say you got this right.
ReplyDeleteI like the donkey, a meek little "beast of burden". I am glad you entered the Biblical aspect, sometimes I think of that when I think donkey, especially the prophecy come true. There were talking donkeys also.
ReplyDeleteMore often though, I think of those in the Grand Canyon, I would like to ride down with one, never been there, yet, let alone the ride.

A donkey is quite the "watch dog" as well. They are humble, yet dignified little animals. I've been lucky to know a few donkeys at various stables where I keep my horse.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful ode. I'm very pro donkey!
