WHATS GOING ON ...POETRY BLOG
we are warned
not to leave the house
if we are elderly
immune compromised
very young
or have respiratory problems
it has been decided
to burn off around sydney
in preparation for a future summer disaster
predicted as bad as in the northern hemisphere
we are now the most air polluted city on earth
worse than mumbai or bejing
it should be over by the weekend
so they say (yeah sure )
she's fed up
being imprisoned inside her beachside apartment
doors and windows closed
and then she thinks of you
she thinks of you a lot
and feels appalled and ashamed
at what you all had to endure
it's still hard to process
that our species is capable
of such unimaginable monstrous evil
the bard was right
hell is empty
all the devils are here
ANNE and MARGOT FRANK

Oh yes, Rall. I have read so much about the Holocaust, and watched everything I can find about it. The Diary of Anne Frank is one of my favourite movies. I dont know what people have to do to their minds to follow the orders of such a regime. But we are seeing it rising again among the right wingers of the world. As we are (hopefully) emerging from wildfire season, you are entering yours. I do hope it wont be as bad as a few years ago. I'm glad you linked this important poem. We need to be reminded, in order not to repeat the horror.
ReplyDeleteIt's difficult to comprehend the evildoing of other supposed humans, yet there is so much evil still being inflicted around the world today.
ReplyDeleteThe carelessness and disrespect for mother earth, is another form of evildoing. Climatic changes don't seem to matter to many of the world's decision makers...tough times...
You have written from an interesting perspective. Whenever we think we have it bad being imprisoned inside because of bad air, we can think of others who have had it much worse.....caused by our own species. Such monstrous evil indeed. Poignant photo of Anne and Margot Frank...I had never seen that one.
ReplyDeleteWe had those warnings here from the wildfires smoke from Canada. Smoke advisory warnings and that thick cloud of smoke that burned eyes and throats. But, today more than smoke burns us… sigh
ReplyDeleteTremendous finale on this!! There was a time this summer when Detroit (60 miles away) had the worst air qualify in the world due to the smoke from Canadian wildfires so I know of what you write.
ReplyDeleteI found myself really looking at the photo... they had no idea. Love the last stanza...
ReplyDeleteI think this world will never change till its Doomsday. There will always be some sane people and mostly insane ones. This ratio will keep changing. Love that Shakespeare quote at the end. Also photos of Anne and Margot saddens me. What a world they had seen!
ReplyDeleteRall, what human devils have done on earth continues to shock the senses. Why is the question I keep asking myself :(
