NAPOWRIMO 2024

  • Cage
  • Ocean
  • Time
  • Cedar
  • Window
  • Sword
  • Flute

DAY 1 ...WORDLE

she sat by the
cedar framed window
looking out on to the ocean
time had passed quickly
she was  pleased
her career choice
was not the cage of an office
cut throat and living by the sword
but instead playing  the flute
and being a musician

DAY 2... A PLATONIC LOVE POEM

she was genuinely happy
for her dear friend
he had been through so much pain
finally he had found someone
who made him smile again
she knew it would never be her
sometimes in the dead of night
she found that hard to cope with

DAY 3

Write a Surreal Poem

the name conjures up
disbelief  and  horror
a kafkaesque nightmare

Q: Forsooth what manner of man is this
who carries his balls in parenthesis?

A: A virulent pestilence that bestrides
the world imagining himself to be a colossus

DAY 4...Alice in Wonderland

 six impossible things
before breakfast
tis my morning routine
the norm for all the others
but not me
back to bed i go
to my safe haven
covers over my head
this world is no wonderland Alice

 no not really
but it has to be better
than what's going on in the world  now

DAY 5....SHADORMA

poets see
they have keen eyes for
shy beauty
even small
miniscule bits and pieces
which go unnoticed

by the blind
those who love mammon
consumers
addicted
to advertising wealth and
all things that glitter

DAY 6...  WEIRD WISDOM

every week's a busy week

back to back medical appointments

shopping

cleaning

cooking

laundry

never ends

they say there are 24 hours in a day

well maybe once there was

but now

time has  shortened

no one remembered to inform us

there's less time

more work

the rich get richer

the poor get poorer

and the poets

lose their marbles

DAY 7

CINQUAIN

earthquake

new york city

unusual event

good idea to get under

a table

nothings

going to ruin

our friday morning tea

we'll enjoy ourselves anyway

tant pis

The earthquake that struck the New York metropolitan area and the surrounding region on Friday morning left some New Yorkers shaken by the rare event but many others were unfazed – or even failed to notice it happened at all.
