there is only one friend
who always remembers her birthday
responds to correspondence
almost immediately
the one she has never met
forgetfulness
from life long acquaintances
says it all
emblazoned
capital letters in the sky
time for the ostrich
to pull her head out of the sand
relinquish the spear carrier position
check out reality so clearly etched
even blind freddy could see it

I know this feeling. Thank heaven for our online friends.

Yes. That's hard stuff. Who knows if continuing to remember them is helpful or not? Who knows if confrontation is worthwhile? I have let go of more than I remember.

ReplyDeleteYour evocative imagery speak volumes on the bittersweet reality of forgetfulness in long-standing relationships while celebrating the surprising constancy of online friends. Poignant!
ReplyDeleteOnline friends are so often there for us when others aren't. I'm with Susan - letting go even when it's extremely painful is often the best way forward. Suzanne - Wayfaring - Wordpress blog.
ReplyDelete"the one she has never met" Long live our online friends! Many of us can relate to the feelings. Intentional forgetfulness hurts. Well said.
ReplyDeleteIt is so tough to be forgotten or is it being ignored. I'm not sure. Thankfully there are those online friends who hold us up.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to this, Rall. I treasure my online friends.
