Day 17
WHATS GOING ON... https//newwhatsgoingon.blogspot.com
Prompt ...Seed as a verb and a noun
when i was a child
my grandmother
seeded a fear in me
of swallowing fruit seeds
of how excruciatingly painful
it is to have a tree growing inside your stomach
having inherited memere's highly imaginative thought processes
i associated it with the self expressive antics of a well known conductor of the time
now that i am older i don't believe
the maestro had swallowed ...well not fruit seeds anyhow
to this day i am still very diligent when it comes to eating fruit.
Day 18...Moonwashed Weekly prompt
light caught in a web
a summer sunset dancing
on fragile dew drops
Day 19
Friday Writings # 173 Forever Young....W3 Weekly Prompt # 155...
i'm forever young
the girls can't keep their
hands off me
good for you
i'm forever blowing bubbles
being your personal slave
There's no use pretending
Things are just the same
When here we are now ending
When here we are now ending
the laughter's turned to pain
Say it's not too late
for me to say I'm sorry
for all the hurt I put you through
Say it's not too late
I'm out of my mind with worry
Say it's not too late for us
for me to say I'm sorry
for all the hurt I put you through
Say it's not too late
I'm out of my mind with worry
Say it's not too late for us

"seeded a fear in me
ReplyDeleteof swallowing fruit seeds" So did mine! Watermelons were supposed to grow in me! It was OK to eat pumpkin and sunflower seeds if toasted and shelled. I would have liked to see that maestro.
Smiles. I remember those childhood fears. I love the photo of your highly expressive conductor.......smiles at the "well not fruit seeds anyhow." LOL.
ReplyDeleteHa, I can imagine how petrifying that must have been to think that if one mistakenly swallowed a seed it could grow inside. The stuff of nightmares for any child, I think. Yikes.
ReplyDeleteSeems to be the fun of the time. In the Netherlands they instilled the same fear lol. I love your beautiful Haiku
ReplyDeleteThe same here only it was my grandfather. I was scared to eat oranges. Ha. That haiku is a beauty.
ReplyDeleteLovely snapshots of your passions - Jae
ReplyDeleteGreat poems, Rall! I, too, grew up with that fear of seeds in my stomach. Lol! I love the image of "a summer sunset dancing." Beautiful!

Thanks Yvette.
ReplyDeleteI remember growing up with the fear that swallowing watermelon seeds would indeed grow inside my stomach. What a display of poetry, Rall. - Eugi
ReplyDeleteCan this marriage be saved? Alas, the characters belong in different cartoons...

I never liked watermelon so I was free of that childhood fear. I had plenty of others to make up for it though.
ReplyDeleteEntertaining as always.
ReplyDeleteI heard that story too, about a tree growing inside if you swallowed a seed. Told mostly by uncles and grandfather's. I probably swallowed one just to see what would happen. There's a story about swallowing gum too!
ReplyDeleteMy mum always encouraged me to eat the apple core completely, telling me that it was good for digestion. I rarely eat apples these days and at some point stopped eating the core. There went my youth.
ReplyDeleteI heard that story too, and that apple pips contained cyanide ...!
ReplyDeleteLovely thoughts. I liked it.
ReplyDeleteRall, these pieces feel raw and playful in equal measure. I especially love the way you move from childhood myth to adult irony, and then shift so effortlessly into lyrical reflection and emotional reckoning.
ReplyDeleteMuch love,
