Manifesto

 dverse

i write
to delight
the odd bods

i write
to avoid doris

i write to
procrastinate

i write
to give a voice
to the quirky

i write to
provoke thoughts

i write
to leave
cryptic clues
for my knight

i write
for my cat
Geoffrey

i write
to receive
chuckles and chortles

i write
as a transport service

i write
because i can

i write
to give

The Odd Couple

Three Word Wednesday

if you are decrepit
it matters not
you are the butterscotch ice cream
to my rock melon

it may not seem credible
but i will let you wear my
pullover if it gets cold

if i seem pensive and remote
it is only because
i am thinking of you

Ash Wednesday

poetry jam

the priest
pours a few drops
of holy water
from the cruet
mixes it with the ash

the season of sadness begins
lent mingled with autumn
every year it is the same
that sinking feeling

feelings churned up
like ocean froth
the end of summer
the call of the north
ancestors banging in my ears

the wonderful gasp of hope
easter on the horizon
always glorious in blue sky
to match the momentous occasion

and will i
will i ever have the guts
to wear this black smudge
on my forehead all day long

a happy couple
carrots making out in the
vegetable garden

he's so very tired
she has a headache as well
a long term marriage

The Locket

poets united

she wore that locket
for years after he had left
like a graft on her skin

snorkelling in a rockpool
somewhere in the south pacific
the clasp unlocked slipped from her neck

swirling falling through shafts of sunlight
to a watery grave on its way to
a rendez vous with her dead marriage

years later she found herself once again
diving in the same spot
studying the minute transparent seahorses

saw a gold glint wedged in the rocks
on closer examination it was her locket

leaving it there without hesitation
she surfaced immediately
and swam as fast as she could to the shore
