For The Weekend

For The New South Welshmen who survived the stinker yesterday .

man it was a hot one
like seven inches from the midday sun
way over the century mark

global warming is here to stay
was the hottest year this year
will even  be hotter next year
south australia is burning

no worries mate
as long as the giant corporations
are stashing it away
sitting pretty on profits
that's all that counts

what happens
when the water dries up and the crops fail?
future generations can deal with that one

White Ribbon Day

3WW...illustrious habitual jumbled
Midweek Motif...PU

FOR THE 78 WOMEN MURDERED ...AND 28,000 ASSAULT VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE THIS YEAR IN AUSTRALIA

habitual denigration
verbally and physically
by men towards women
is in epidemic proportions

it navigates all
social echelons from the illustrious
to the average joe

often confused
by the jumbled mixed messages
tears and declarations of love
false promises and flowers
the women stay
a lot having nowhere to go

the few lucky ones
leave or outlive the perpetrators
the remainder either die literally or figuratively
the children scarred for life

misogyny
the curse and shame of our age

Life

Midweek Motif PU

life
is a struggle
a lot of the time
filled with
disappointment
broken dreams
disillusionment
peppered
with wonderful memories
splendid moments
always too brief
never long enough
just like the perfect summer

as long as we are still
on a boat
we are all survivors

it's a smooth ride for some
turbulent for others
some want to jump off
some cling to a wreckage
some opt for alternate ways
to stay afloat

Michael Leunig

survival depends
on prevailing weather
luck
karma
ancestors
maybe even guardian angels
or other mysterious forces at work
pulling the strings

a spray of pink
peppercorns in my pocket
from my own tree

beautiful shade trees
keeper of afternoon dreams

Shadorma

FOR MY DEAR FRIEND PETER

you are ill
the light breeze sang it
in my ear
on the plains
the bottle brush nodded too
later you emailed

enjoy this
a small patch of oz
in springtime
thoughts of love
sent to you and yours - may God
always protect you

behind clouds
the cry of an eagle
holy smoke rises

Chevrefeuille

holy smoke rises
fragrant like violin rosin
spiritual high

For The Weekend Again

you can
rumpti tumpti tumpti tum
huff and puff
blow the house down
blow the house up
blow yourself up
because
i saw a red canna lily today
that made my heart soar

i saw some christmas lights
outside
a small drab block of flats
lovingly arranged on a sad lone bush
by a sweet tenant

i saw a dear english woman
milk porcelain'd complexion
sweltering and wilting
in over 40 degree heat
bothering to painstakingly give directions
to a vague passerby ( moi.)
comatosed by the burning sun
God bless her

yes
i'm the gal who broke the bank at monte carlo
an inescapable truth
the best things in life are free
providing
one is not blind to them
