" When a child at school tells me of the kindness of the nurses when she had her appendix out, I pray for a long time for that to happen to me, and a daydream about the loving words and caresses that might come my way if I were ever lucky enough to have what was spoken of then, with gravity, as an operation."
"Roundabout at Bangalow" an intimate memoir by Shirley Walker.
This is a favourite book of mine no doubt influenced by the fact that I use to live half time ..( I don't live full time anywhere by choice ) near the Channon Northern NSW, where Shirley Walker grew up, for almost 20 years.
I recommend this as a good read. I can feel a huge dose of wander lust coming on .If
I don't appear on these pages for a few weeks I have taken off (without phone or computor with me ole china) to contemplate my navel, commune with nature, taking a serendipitous journey to the unknown. After which I shall return ,hopefully refreshed, fighting fit, ready to rejoin the blogosphere fray.
Rall, I have two reactions to share. From the Walker quote of kindness, there's a lot to work from here, and thanks for that. If you check out for a bit (and I know a little of what this means, and totally understand) please, please plan to return and re-engage us all. I'm new to this form and can't thank you enough for getting my mind working in different directions. Hugs from Oregon...
ReplyDeleteI used to have that wanderlust myself. It's refreshing.
ReplyDeleteThanks Black Douglas....I wont be gone for long ..just a month ..will go back to Sydney for the French Film Festival next week and then off travelling for a bit...I've bought tickets for the Chris Botti concert in Sydney in June so I will be back by then. I would like to make it to POW week 26 ( that would make it 6 months) Only a nutter would even consider having a poetry site with two people on it. I suppose that makes you one too! Glad you enjoy the prompts..they jump out at me from the book shelves.
ReplyDeleteHow about wandering over here next Wednesday with a poem on kindness Anthony. You would be most welcome.
