Its OK I can push the trolley
no Miss A Goong I want to pretend
to be rich woman
she glows at the bag of shopping which
is hers chicken sausages biscuits honey
shampoo are all treasured gifts
God she does not know that the poorest
wheel a full supermarket trolley
back home and is it?
We sing Adele together in the kitchen
and joke of making a CD
I tell her about going out with that
French Canadian who got hit in the face
when I cracked a crab claw
And the whole restaurant laughed
She is horrified that I went to dinner
with a married man also being married myself
shit I hope she doesn't think I'm a floozie
then I assure her no monkee beezeeness
she looks relieved
then she says I am very lucky
she tells me of her sadnesses
I don't tell her about mine
She makes me very happy
She is my maid and I love her
I'll miss her when I go
Tell her yours. She's a woman first; then your maid. There's great wisdom in simplicity.
ReplyDeletewe choose what we reveal and what we revel in...and just being together sometimes is enough you know...
ReplyDeleteSuch a good one. You give us a glimpse into two lives and the intensity of emotion simmering just below the surface.
ReplyDeleteSometimes we all need someone to tell our secrets too. If you trust her, share. If not, then, I guess it has to burn a hole in you somewhere.
ReplyDeleteI bet that wasn't funny at the time, hitting a guy in the face with a crab claw...LOL
I love this moment between two souls in the kitchen. I wondered, though: where are you going that you will miss her? I expected it to be the other way around.......
ReplyDeleteSo good...nicely done.
ReplyDeleteI like the stream of consciousness in this one. Great and entertaining write!
ReplyDeleteTheres a reality to this thats hard to achieve at times, but you always seem to do it flawlessly. I love this style, I love this poem.
ReplyDeletelove this exploration of relationship.
ReplyDeletethe tension of 'lines' that may or may not be crossed - between speaker and maid, between the couple at the dinner table, between the speaker and the speaker's life which remains only partially exposed, while the maid lays out her sadnesses face-up.
the title's meanings also significant.
all around solid and worthy.
really enjoyed this.
Thank you all for your generous comments. Merry is her real name and she really is a treasure.
