Wattles

Glory to God
for wattle feathery boughs
yellow skirted dancers
powdery sunshine hue
dotted over the winter landscape
of stark stripped trees pencil outlined
against a grey sky

the invitation said September
but being single minded they
turn up in July the coldest month
all dressed up nowhere to go
waiting for the party doors
to open in Spring

  1. would not surprise me at all if things showed up at odd times this year with all the wacky weather...lovely visuals in the opening stanza...

  2. They obviously have an independent streak - good for them! :)

  3. A fine address to these early arrivals. I like the brief Hopkins echo in the first line, but your own voice rings true here. (Good reads down the page too).
