nessun dorma
luscious notes
came floating across the harbour
with intermittent applause
ferries - slow moving lantern lit snails
crawling on water to the tinkling
of halyards
such beauty squandered
all she could think of
with dismal dread
was the cleaner coming
early in the morning
and having to listen
to her mindless waffle
puccinni....nice...love how you treat the sounds in the second stanza....ugh....i guess sometimes even music will not fix the mood...
ReplyDeleteto bad she thought of only the clen up and not the fun
ReplyDeleteWe all get like that. Great write.
ReplyDeleteIf I had a cleaner coming in the morning, I'd gladly listen to her mindless waffle... :)
ReplyDeleteIt is not a bad idea to have an urgent errand to make when the cleaner comes. Quite apart from the waffle they don't clean exactly as you would and wouldn't dream of Puccini or any other inspiring music to work by.
ReplyDeleteNot if you knew this one Stanski. It was long ago with bad associations...she was creepy.
ReplyDeleteSpot on oldegg...less hassle doing it yourself!
Thanks Anthony and Sheilagh.
I love love loved your second stanza! What an awesome image. Awesome poem. It's true how worry can so quickly take over a peaceful moment.
ReplyDeleteGlad you can relate to this Gretchen. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteQuite enchanted by the first two stanzas (stanzi?), found the last discordant but suspect it was meant to be.
ReplyDeleteSo maybe no cage is a good cage..even a sparkly golden cage..shame how even the best moments are somehow overshadowed by the next moments..I say fire her..but not like a firework,,
ReplyDeleteNo cage is a good cage jaerose...
