They say he swallowed the sun
Wore the moon as perfumed cologne
His hair soft and silver -his smile beaming
He loved his muse-she was young fun
Striped in orange and raspberry tones
Her pose seductive whilst day dreaming
His sunburnt house all pink and plum
Bunches of flowers all home grown
In rich coloured mosaic vases gleaming
At the end when his time was almost done
Did he think of her when he was all alone
Of her firm beauty and sensual leanings
Whirls of vibrant colour with crushed grey stone
Magnificent white magnolias in pale blue folds
Lovely take on your picture :)
ReplyDeleteha....really great imagery and cadence in this....i would hope he thought of her...i would...you know...smiles...that third stanza is wonderfully descriptive...
ReplyDeleteYour first stanza takes me right in; I like the
ReplyDeletesunburnt house and all you imagined in that small world..magical indeed;)
Dazzling, delightful ... what more can I say?
ReplyDeleteah you capture the colors and mood of the painting well..love the swallowing the sun and wearing the moon as perfume..ha...the sun burnt house pink and plum is very cool as well..and good job on the form..and i love magnolias...can't wait for them to start blossoming..
ReplyDeleteVery cool -- more about the painter than the subject.
ReplyDeleteBut "firm beauty" ? She looks deliciously soft and pudgy.
Matisse has always been one of my favourite artists, and oh, you capture the joyousness of colour and form in your trireme sonnet, with its brash vocabulary and its reveling in imagery. A glorious exercise in ekphrastic poetry!
ReplyDeleteVery nice form and choice of words painting a Matisse in your words. Beautiful :-)
