Blueys Beach

dverse

the best time
to stay here during the festive season
at my favourite place is now
pre Christmas and pre school hols

it's packed to the gunwales
during Christmas and summer
too expensive and too much flesh

am staying at blueys by the beach
a laid back sleepy little motel
by the sea

all the rooms are painted in sea blue
green and white
with christine keeler chairs
and van gogh flower prints.....nice

the very best thing
IS
a  small pool right outside my door
framed by apricot hibiscus and palms
and hardly used because aussies
prefer the surf

the cicada orchestra starts early
i step out into the sunshine
for a morning swim before breakfast
breast stroking to a currawong bazurka

in togs and thongs
unbrushed birds nest hair
propping up a panama
i cross the narrow road to buy the papers
and  notice the FOR SALE sign

my heart sinks

the decor will get a revamp
(will be considered  too 80s )
the whole mood will be lost
and why am i surprised

anything i love (and there is so little)
is always taken from me

  1. i do enjoy off season at the beach...the pool right outside the door, when we went on our honeymoon we had a small pool in our cabin...was way cool to just get up and fall into the pool...stinks when those special places get sold, they def tend to lose something...

  2. Yep...getting up and falling into the pool is hard to find especially with the right decor and ambience. Oh well I will just pop another cork and drown my sorrows:) I am having my Christmas fun before Christmas. I never do anything the right way around:

  3. I know that things change, that things will change, that things probably must change. But it still sucks.

  5. Sad when things we are comfortable with and love change in the name of progress.
Glad you are enjoying the pre-Christmas calm now and have a happy one!

  6. I enjoyed how you painted the place and it's millieu with words. It was a sad poem to me, and "love so little/taken away" left me reflective - about the transience of things.

  7. Maybe it won't sell - some things do hang on a little while, and sometimes new owners keep things the same. I remember I went to Sun Valley and never dreamed that it would look the very same as it had in Sonja Henje movies. The same piano in the lodge where it was filmed.Very 40s and still very cool. But prices will undoubtedly go up. This Christmas has been full of sticker shock for me. But the place sounds like paradise and I know you'll have a fabulous holiday. Hoping that and for you a happy new year.

  8. The Sun Valley place sounds fabulous. Thank you for your good wishes and positive outlook. Some peoples' lives are full of sticker shocks ...and some go on without a ripple...Looks like we are of the sticker shock variety. I am having a lovely time and leave tomorrow back to the big smoke. I wish you a wonderful Christmas and all the best to you for the New Year.
