School Days

Mid Week Motif...PU

the teacher
looks like a movie star
arrives with a hangover
turns off the lights
falls asleep on the desk
the kids watch a movie

does not give homework
no questions or talking
before 11 am
allows food and drinks
to be consumed
in the classroom

she is classified
as a bad teacher
most of her students
probably
would not agree

  1. I don't think the students will term her as a bad teacher.. she seems somewhat cool.

    1. I think you are probably right and therein lies the point of this poem.

  2. Oh yes they would! Students really can critique the educator! But she also might be their favorite teacher. Detailed and associative, this poem provides the other side of the debate of what teacher's contribute. Before I retired, the press in Pennsylvania was having a field day with exposing what a few teacher's did wrong rather than what most did right.

  3. Well, that sounds like an unusual teacher. I imagine some students might like that approach.

  6. The boys in my day would have loved it! We had eccentric ones, cruel ones and sleepy ones...but none this good!

  7. Yep, the Cameron Diaz kind of teacher...I can see how some might like that kind of teacher but not the students who really want to learn anything.

  11. Teaching in our times is not for the faint of heart, when children believe nothing is worth paying attention to unless it is entertaining.

  12. Good teacher or bad? It's all a matter of perspective, isn't it?
