again this year

hope
you indulged yourself
in splendid decadence
for the day
wine and bubble bath
gateau coco au lait

to make amends
i should jump out of a cake
a surprise you may like
from an aussie chick mate

but the weather is cold
and i'm getting too old
for these juvenile capers
well so i've been told

i could get your neighbour
miss betty b bloop
to sing your signature song
' let me jump through your hoops '
but your hearing is shot
has been for so long
besides
miss betty b bloop
does not like men
who wear thongs
i know you like birds
but not kept in cages
you've been
bird watching next door
for ages and ages

as i can't think of things
you would like or excite
have ransacked my brain
the bulb's dim wont light
so i guess that leaves roses
deep red and with thorns
please accept them
as a gift for the day
you were born

ReplyDeleteExcellent and entertaining poem!
ReplyDeleteThis is funny and wonderful! I love to see a sense of humor about getting older, what else do we have left?
ReplyDeleteThis was a delight to read. I especially love "the bulb's dim wont light". LOL. Just wonderful.
ReplyDeleteNever too old to jump out a cake - but those parting roses are beautiful..and true
ReplyDelete🌹🌹😄 Nice one Fall
ReplyDeleteMuch love...
what a delightful read with the usual humor!...a precious gift indeed!
ReplyDeleteWhat a treat this is...for someone.
ReplyDeleteSomeone's lucky. Hope they know. Never had a girl-filled gateau; the NHF say they can be bad for your heart. Just get fruitcakes; what are they telling me? Roses are alway right.
ReplyDeleteI know how you celebrate birthdays! :)
ReplyDeleteThat was hilarious...! Just wonderful, Rall.
