wandering down
broughton street
in trackies and a beanie
roars and guffaws punctuate
the cold night air
the beau monde are at play
drinking at the royal
the tallest slimmest glam gels
balancing on 10 inch heels
all gathered in the one place
straight out of the pages of vogue
flashing smiles and eyes
on the hunt
while the guys busy themselves buying drinks
desperate to appear fascinating
i have been making this little trek
to the shop on and off since i was a young thing
paddo is a place which has never lost its magic
there are few places where going to buy milk
is always an adventure
You have painted a vivid picture...
ReplyDeleteAdventures whilst buying milk - the best kind so says me and Alice - thank you for making us smile this morning :-)
ReplyDeleteHa, you're in danger of becoming a contemporary C. J. Dennis! (Which I mean as a great compliment, of course.)
ReplyDeleteMmmmmm !
ReplyDelete"straight out of the pages of vogue
ReplyDeleteflashing smiles and eyes
on the hunt" feeling such ahaaaas for the fascinated hunted :)
Haha ... and if not an adventure, at least a foreign land!
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely delightful!! :D
ReplyDeleteLike how you've painted an image of a place with interest, and depicting character of the beautiful people [correct me if my French is wrong] :)
ReplyDeleteDelightfully tender Rall - this speaks true and was a joy to read - thank you... With Best Wishes Scott
ReplyDeleteLuv how you make the ordinary sparkle
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday
much love...
Hi Rall!
ReplyDeleteThis is Sydney, right? Whenever I read your poetry I am always going to think of my brief little time there, and how much I already miss it. I think about Australia most every day now...
So pleased you enjoyed it down here. Next time give us a call...we can go have a drink at the Royal...promise I wont wear the trackies and the beanie:)
DeleteI can see and almost hear them. I would be the one in track suit and, if not a beanie, at least some untamed locks flapping about. Smiles. Haven't worn heels in my life.
ReplyDeleteYou got me at the end. I had no idea that this was a milk-buying expedition! Thanks for the great surprise---and laugh!
ReplyDeleteA prefer wandering about Paddington markets, but each to his/her own!
ReplyDeleteJust to get milk, that is an adventure indeed :)
ReplyDeleteHahaha ...yes, isn't it wonderful... knowing, just getting up and out is going to be an adventure.
ReplyDeleteThis piece was beautiful.
