memories
of a carefree party age
before the time
of facebook
before
reading text and never
having to be alarmed
by someone's genitals
flashing in your face
(sexting)

memories of a time
before the scourge of
crystal meth
' ice '
before the religion of peace
set the world on fire
resulting in
millions of refugees
with nowhere to go
before the time
of 'me' mine
not in my back yard
nothing and no -one else matters

before rigid conformity
took hold and strangled
free thought

before technology
created zombies
attached to smart phones
Video is blocked in my country
ReplyDeleteOh...sorry to hear that.
DeleteNostalgia's not what it used to be.
ReplyDeleteHere is to building new memories, with emphasis of the crafting of memories/histories our children won't afraid of... or ashamed to share.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if it's as bad as it seems... maybe we need to believe in future to change it all.
ReplyDeleteExcellent write :)
ReplyDeleteDisheartening, the "progress" we have made. Not.
ReplyDelete...and before the scourge of crystal meth there was the time England was bomb shelters and air raid wardens, Europe was threatened by the madman who would rule the world, entire families were sent to gas chambers or work camps, Japan sought to slay the giant, and men progressed from war to war Somehow, this old world goes on, and can only pray good will overcome.
ReplyDeleteConformity seems to be a perennial problem, it just assumes different forms.
ReplyDeleteWith a population careless foolish and mindless they are but putty in a politicians hands. Get then to hate and vilify rather than love and assist then political leaders will have an army behind them. Be very afraid.
ReplyDeleteWe should be nostalgic indeed.
ReplyDeleteI could see where you're coming from. Great theme.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't know how good we had it. But I am sure that freedom is not what DT means by "great again." Maybe in time, we'll find a moral and fun equivalent.
