Self Respect

lady bountiful  plants flowers
in gardens where they are never watered
deludes herself she has friends
tolerates indifferent behaviour because
she is  so nice

the  quintessential honey pot to buzzing free loaders
tires of her role as spear carrier of last resort
precariously balancing on the lowest rung
of the pecking order of importance
after many years of service

last on the list - last page in the address book
finally removes her t shirt  logo
'mine is to give'

she will find a lot more time
to tend her own flowers
sit amongst her own roses
have a tea party with herself
and enjoy good company
(her own)

  1. There comes a time when indifference seeks in. Your subject is wise to treat herself fine.

  2. Lady Bountiful. I love that! I'm going to start calling myself that, in my head. :)

I hope your girl realizes that it's a positive if she becomes her own best friend.

  4. How important is "me" time for whetever we do, how much we care for others, we must still be able to sit back and be yourself and enjoy that too.

  5. Loss is theirs who were indifferent to her. She'll have good time with herself. A nice take on the theme.

  8. Just beautiful, Rall. She will find a quiet peace in her own company and thoughts.

  9. Oh WOW, does this ever speak to me. I had to move some distance from my former life in order to carve out some space for myself, LOL. The peace and spaciousness is quite lovely.

  10. This is quite a tale. In the end only she will know the truth of it.

    1. And I guess someone should comment on the implied but not-quite-stated: the crucial importance of SELF-respect.
