Sundays Whirligig
This weeks words come from " The Great Horned Owl" by Sallie Wolf:
owl perched tree night birds sun
rose crows caws caused found flee
the crows plaintif caws caused a flurry
flocks of birds
perched high in the jacaranda tree
flee just before sun up
the night owl
finds a bunch of red roses
on the table
her heart sinks
as she gingerly steps over
the broken glass
another peace offering
that means nothing

Oh, I like your poem. The roses for the night owl, that means nothing.
ReplyDeleteI like the deep meaning in your words!
ReplyDeleteI love the imagery in this poem, especially the flock of birds in the jacaranda tree. Gorgeous. The gift that means nothing.....very vivid.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what the peace offering is for?
ReplyDeleteSometimes peace offerings are like that...
ReplyDeleteAnna :o]
Beautifully evocative!
ReplyDeleteI interpreted it as a woman who does not accept her husband's peace offering. That she's a night owl, sleepless and in despair.
ReplyDeleteLove the birds in the jacaranda tree. Wonderful image!
ReplyDeleteVery deep Love the last lines
ReplyDeleteVery cleverly done – each verse succinct and complete, yet adding together to form a whole greater than the sum of the parts.
ReplyDeletePeace offerings that mean nothing...
ReplyDeleteI am too intimately acquainted with them.
