Triolet for Captain Arthur Phillip

Triolet - ABaAabAB

South Head Sydney

you must have been elated
when you sailed in through the heads
the gods smiled you were feted
you must have been elated
they heard you coming and waited
with sharpened spears dark red
you must have been elated
when you sailed in through the heads

Founding of Modern Australia 26th January 1788 at Camp Cove

Camp Cove Sydney

i have swum at this place
since i was a child
your heart must have raced
i have swum at this place
its beauty bringing a smile to your face
white sand warm breeze seductive and mild
i have swum at this place
since i was a child

  6. We just have to admit that Australia is a really beautiful place to live; but shush! or everybody will be wanting to come to live here too. Next poem talk about the snakes and crocodiles we have to beat back with sticks in our gardens and the sharks and jellyfish that are waiting to bite and sting us at the beach.

  9. How wonderful to swim at the place where Modern Australia was born - do you wonder of those who swam and trod before there, in the passage of time since 1778?
I sometimes wonder what has happened in past time in the very spot of where I sit now, of lives lived and then gone. I find it fascinating.

  10. Nicely timed for Australia Day! (Or Invasion Day. I acknowledge that it was an invasion, and that even though my personal ancestors were not implicated, it paved the way for them to settle here later (much later) ... yet I can't but feel glad to be here.)
