Peepo Into The Future

oh look
it has feathers
they used to call them birds
my grandparents
said there were lots of them around
before the time of the great fires

old people tend to put a gloss on things
like imagining  there was once electric blue sky
running waterfalls turquoise sea
white sand  rain forests
brightly coloured coral and fish
all stuff of fairy tales and myth

there were subversive undesirables
called poets back in those days
the best ones were banned
by the thought and smile free police
for spreading too much joy

  1. No, silly, it won't come to that – we'll all be gone, ourselves!

A sadly ironic write. One of your best, in my book.

  4. A lovely/sad poem, one that reminds me of the tragic fires in Australia and its many, many costs. What an inspiration you are.

  8. I think this might be our future, unfortunately...
The thought police have been alive and well for many more years than young folk think.. (I remember my hubs alluding to them in the seventies... and I thought he was mad (at the time)...)

  9. I like this a lot, despite the subject matter. Well done but depressing.

  10. Stop predicting the future this instant! Don't you know the Illuminati can see what you write?!?

Obviously I kid, but yeah... you seem to have your finger on the pulse of current trends, however unfortunate they are. :(
