Sunday's Whirligig # 247

American singer Bette Midler pulled no punches as she lashed out at Mr Morrison early this morning in an extraordinary tweet that has already generated more than 19,000 likes and 5000 retweets.

“Pity the poor #Australians, their country ablaze, and their rotten @ScottMorrisonMP saying, “This is not the time to talk about Climate Change. We have to grow our economy. What an idiot. What good is an economy in an uninhabitable country? Lead, you f...wit!!”

bush fires everywhere

a war zone

the skies covered in darkness

political feuds and false premises abound

about the cause of this catastrophe

the streets are  quiet and eerie

all the windows are shut

the mood is mournful this festive season

in spite of so many  giving a helping hand

hundreds are homeless

 some have perished

our birds and wild life are dying

prayers for peace and rain

ringing from church bells and spires

don't seem to be working

perhaps we are being sent a warning

of things to come by u know who

we should really listen

THIS WEEK'S WORDS come from "In Memoriam A. H. H. OBIIT MDCCCXXXIII: 106" by Alfred, Lord Tennyson: wild, false, ring, hand, bells, feud, peace, darkness, dying, spire, wars, mournful

  1. Rall, I have been struck to my soul by the wildfires and the death of 450 MILLION innocent and helpless wild creatures. I am glad to find you here. We are bearing witness to unimaginable times, sooner than we thought. I remember when wildfires hit the Valley I lived in before.....the sky was eerie and yellow, it felt Apocalyptic. But your wildfires are beyond anything ever seen. They are terrifying. And you do have a f-wit "leader". OMG. Get rid of him.

  2. Oh, good for Bette! I didn't know that. And your poem is spot on, of course. That middle verse is haunting.

  4. This drills right into the hard parts of catastrophe -- the scale of events unnatural, the politics useless, the prayers futile. I think we have to grind straight through this to get to what matters, for us and the planet we're destroying. Too bad that it takes this amount of vanishing wildlife to discover the futility of a strong economy in a dead country!

  5. I read that tweet earlier and it is unfortunate that Australia is not taking the lead in the climate-urgency, given the devastation to land and animals and human lives. I hope you get rain and cooler temps and all the help you need down under.

  6. Scientists have told us that the climate will change rapidly but we do not listen. I wouldn't have thought there could be a more ignorant leader than the one we have here. Wouldn't have believed that possible. I hope it isn't too late to listen. Thank you.

  10. Oh, yes, I think I do know who. And one day the wrath to come will be the wrath that has come. Not a pretty picture.
