it wasn't the first time
the crow had dropped by
with a key for rapunzel
wary of witches
crows bearing gifts
manicured nails
helping hands
locked doors
she preferred
to nap on the road
from time to time
swathed in sky blue
protected by a pair of spiky heels
besides
since her braids were chopped off
the ladder was a better option
if she felt the need for a royal visitor

That was an original take with the Rupunzel reference. I always say be weary of crows bearing gifts. First, you must know the intention of the gift.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of the crow being a royal visitor. A wonderful and poetic tale Rall!
ReplyDeleteThis felt like the way outdoors felt as a child. Thanks for the lovely flashback. 😁
ReplyDeleteI especially like your final stanza in this song of crow.
ReplyDeleteAha! Sounds like Rapunzel has "smartened up"! What a great and amusing write.
ReplyDeleteI love that the crow came bearing gifts. With chopped off braids, good thing there was a ladder.
ReplyDeleteCool!
ReplyDeleteGreat take on the prompt!
ReplyDeleteI'd be wary of Crows carrying keys. I agree, a ladder will be better. A fun read.

Very nice Loved the last stanza
ReplyDeleteHa ha on the ending. I read it without seeing the picture first and it holds up without it. A fun archetypal character sketch.
ReplyDeleteHaha! I enjoy how you have liberated Rapunzel and made her aware of the importance of detail!
ReplyDeleteGreat take on this prompt, love the fairytale references.
ReplyDeleteI love this fresh perspective on the Rapunzel tale!❤️ Gorgeously rendered.
