Weekly Scribblings # 11

Tell me, is the rose naked
or is that her only dress?

Why do trees conceal
the splendor of their roots?'
Who hears the regrets
of the thieving automobile?
Is there anything in the world sadder
than a train standing in the rain?
NERUDA

is there anything in the world sadder
than a train standing in the rain?
 yes -
the rough train ride ahead
trying to outrun and survive
the corona virus
for millions of vulnerable people

oh for the luxury to reflect
on  sad wet trains and naked roses
 the stuff of dreamers
with stacks of toilet paper medication and a full larder

why do the trees conceal the splendor of their roots?
because  they are smart
they understand if anything is beautiful
it will be destroyed by humans sooner or later

Nearer my God to Thee
hmm...Wonder why that hymn popped into my head
remember that scene in the movie  !

it may come to that
it may not come to that
gotta cat?
puss will let you know before social media does

will the survivors learn anything from this terrible time?
history has told us  that already

  1. Sadly humans don't always learn from their mistakes as they have this strange impression that they know everything...isn't that a laugh!

  2. A sobering poem, Rall. Last week I took the train for the last time in a good while, leaving my daughter and grandson behind, and now I’m in isolation. I agree with the lines:
‘oh for the luxury to reflect
on sad wet trains and naked roses
    the stuff of dreamers
with stacks of toilet paper medication and a full larder’.

  3. I like the way you answered Neruda's questions, and then let them slide effortlessly into your own. Good answers – if not very cheering. Not a lot to be cheery about just now.

  4. A most wonderful continuation in your own style of Neruda's poem, Rall! I especially resonate with; "will the survivors learn anything from this terrible time? history has told us that already." Thank you so much for adding your voice to the prompt!💝

  5. I'm afraid you're right. History speaks loudly of our condition: We humans are fools, having wasted the earth, its resources, and ourselves.

  7. I see my fellow citizens rising to the occasion in creative ways. School buses with no passengers are being used to transport meals to those whose only meal is at school; restaurants have quickly adapted a system of preparing meals for pick-up; people are running errands for elderly who are home-restricted; and the list goes on. In times of crisis, differences lessen.

  8. Humans, can be the worst and best... Let's hope more and more will rise up and create a better world.

  10. *sigh* Who knows. One must hope for the best but the herd is easily stampeded.
