earthweal....yesterday

yesterday

was a public holiday

celebrating

the queens birthday

unsurprisingly her majesty prefers canada to oz

yesterday

the beach disappeared

 at bondi

swept across the pavilion

and into the shops

yesterday

huge waves

dotted our coastline

too dangerous to swim or  surf

not for the faint hearted

yesterday

i saw the whales

having such fun

they seem to enjoy

these extreme weather conditions

jumping out of the water

crash landing

and for the first time

i  understood

what having a whale of a time meant

good on them

  1. Wow, these are amazing photos, Rall. So scary when the sea comes inland like that. I smiled at the surfer about to ride the giant wave - they are like that here too. "DUDE! Surf's up!" I love that the whales enjoy the extremes. But what a downer for the humans mopping up after the flood.

  3. The wild sea...and the contrast with our trivial human concerns. I too like the repetition.

  4. Life's juxtapositions really fascinate me. The first time I saw a whole I was on a boat and dropped to the ground in awe. It was then that I understood what it meant to be "floored" by something. I love the 'whale of a time' reference. I also like the structure of 'yesterday,' a good place to jump off from.

  5. Rall, Susan asked that her comment be added here, as Blogger would not let her post it. She wrote, "Rall, the collage effect here is Shakespearean–laughter and tears–and the ending makes it a tragicomedy. I’m happy to know “having a whale of a time” before we lose the reality of the reference. Your poem gave me pause."

  6. If Oz weren't so far away from the UK, I'm sure Her Majesty would visit your world of wonders frequently,

  9. I'll leave those waves to the whales. I'd enjoy the sight of them enjoying themselves more than I'd want to be near the waves.
