many years ago
cute little girls wore dresses
ribbons in their hair
it's been half a century
since she's worn a pretty dress
technology rules
our world has changed forever
we have lost a lot
tech advantage at a cost
maybe the costs are too high
we learnt french at school
it was a good fun lesson
with madame mercier
it would have been more fun if
she had taught us words like this
a box of darkness
an unwanted gift for sure
you are wrong mary
this person was a toxin
and not worthy of your love

I think you're right about Mary. I have been looking back over boxes of darkness I've received, and cannot find the gifts.
ReplyDeleteI remember those dresses (and red shoes, too). And I agree with the fact that terrible people gifting darkness aren't worth our time. Still, some gifts can't be returned, so we might as well do the best we can with them--even if the giver are best forgotten.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I wasn't the only one not seeing the gift! I like very much how you put it, only a toxic friend would give you a box of darkness and expect you to find light in it.
ReplyDeleteI like to think of the analogy 'If you lend someone 20 dollars and never see them again then it was probably worth it'
DeleteWhat a emotive and reflective poem - it scanned a whole lot of feelings in such a succinct and coherent form - Jae
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of students would learn languages faster if allowed to learn how to say rude things! Je deteste les classes de francais. La escuela es asquerosa. Etc.
ReplyDeleteOr should learning that kind of thing be an unadvertised reward for learning to say nicer things?
