W3 Prompt # 172 + Friday Writings # 190

idlewild
the sound of music to her ears
not a few of her favourite things
her very favourite thing
lost to reality
elsewhere in the head
her dream
endless hours
gazing out at nothing
dolce far niente
she is  par excellence
at idlewilding
never  to be confused with
edelweissing
energetic kiddy choruses
caterwauling about solfege
with a  frenetic fraulein nanny
who wants to marry the boss
singing about her favourite things

Idlewild..meaning from THE DICTIONARY OF OBSCURE SORROWS

allowing your mind to wander and relax....freedom to be....not having to do anything....being grateful for a long road trip gazing out even if it's just to flicker your eyes across the passing landscape.

  1. I like how this flows with a playful ease — “par excellence at idlewilding” really nails the vibe.

  6. What a wonderful word is idlewild! And the 'odd favourite things' video is a scream (in both senses). Your poem makes good sense of it all.

PS I Hope you read my reply to your comment on my piece.
