beneath the waves
a world at peace in a rockpool
holding her breath
she glides along
lightly parting the weed
as the
small fish dart out to greet her
silence
except for her racing heart beat
driven by the memory of a soft touch
soft word whispers of love
now too late
gone
Schubert Impomptu no 3...Alfred Brendel
A wonderful poem! That last line is so simple and haunting.

ReplyDeleteRall, I really like how your poem moves from calm waters to “soft word whispers of love / now too late”—it gave me much to think about.

Love you began with silence and ended with gone ~~~ the ultimate "peaceful easy feeling" kind of vibe.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful imagery ❤️
ReplyDeleteYour poem reminds me of the little fish and prawns that live in the rice fields all around me. "A world at peace", at least until someone comes out the catch them.
ReplyDeleteLovely poem.
ReplyDeleteShe's gone too soon.
ReplyDeleteI can't help contemplating who or what the she is in this piece. No, no... don't tell me. I love the enigmatic nature of it.
