Napowrimo poem Day 21
Prompt: Perfection v Flaws
Perfection
a hard taskmaster
produces
sublime
glimpse of
God
Bach
Michelangeli
little tease packages
to tantalise us
We aspire
can't catch
its mercurial little tail
always out of reach
We weave a tapestry
of myriad flaws
diverse and multi coloured strands
that breathe life into our complex humanity
If the flaws are big
and slipped stiches
turn into gaping holes
Count on devastation
This is good, such beautiful images.
ReplyDeleteI hear you on the likes of JS and AB. The last 2 stanzas though, about flaws, make me think Ozone Layer.
ReplyDeleteYep the ozone layer and everythng else!
ReplyDeleteHey, what will you remember longer, the perfectly played etude, or the guy who tripped, fell, & shattered his cello on the way to center stage?
ReplyDeleteBut don't you think that that diverse and multi-coloured tapestry still offers glimpses of God, however illusive, Rall?
ReplyDeleteNO
ReplyDeleteAlways the etude. It sustains me . I find so much joy in life because of it!
ReplyDeleteI was only asking!
ReplyDeleteOh Derrick...I'm a flawed Aussie chick. I do plain talk especially when I'm tired!
ReplyDelete"Tapestry of flaws" is brilliant! I love your blog, Rall. So creative and expressive. Love coming here ... always like a party!
ReplyDeleteThankyou Marianne and speaking of parties...
ReplyDeleteWe should have a party for the last day 30 and to celebrate RWP farewell
Derrick is loaded... so he can bring all the expensive booze.
Pam can bring her mariaci band along
Irene knows some good songs from the stone age
Wayne can recite some beatnik verse
So what are you bringing Marianne?
Love the visuals, especially making perfection some kind of vexing little creature with a tail, to catch and subdue. But we so rarely do. Memorable poem.
ReplyDeleteEspecially like: mercurial little tail.
ReplyDeleteParty is a good description of your blog. Hmmm - I can bring some great jazz 78 platters for the mariaci bands'time outs.
ReplyDeleteI love perfection's mercurial little tail always out of reach! Great insight here.
Love the idea of chasing perfection's "mercurial tail"... and the slipped stitches. Flaws are best when kept small to provide our color.
ReplyDeletenicely put, though I can only have the assumption that something I can't percieve as perfect, is.
ReplyDeletesorry if that doesn't make sense to anyone else, I seem to be coming down with a case of dense.
This is a great poem! I love the short lines that make me feel like I am trying to catch my breathe from chasing that "mercurial little tail" -- fantastic!!
ReplyDeleteAhh, the tease.
ReplyDeleteVery nice, the feeling that the greatest artists give us, closing in on Perfection or the Essence, but never quite there, is hard to capture amd present, but you do it well. I especially like how you decribe the greatest art as "little tease packages".
ReplyDelete(Thank you for reading - and commenting on - mine today, "kiss it". I am not sure you were joking along or serious, but I've added an explanation that I place a JPG image of a white square - invisible to myself and most viewers but apparently some see it - at the bottom of all my posts, for spacing. thanks!)
from Therese B -- Fine poem. But where's the glimpse of the feminine? Maybe add Frida Kahlo to Bach and Mich and God?
ReplyDeletePerhaps I can bring cake =)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful poem. I love the way your short line lengths give the poem a distinctive rhythm. "Tapestry of myriad flaws" is my favorite image in the piece. I think it's really brilliant! Great work! :)
ReplyDeleteLovely poem Rall. I didn't know you were a classical musician. My husband also studied classical music. As far as the mariachi band goes just give me advance notice. They seem to have gone astray (I need to locate them);)
ReplyDeletePamela
I agree Francis, small flaws do provide the colour and interest factor.
ReplyDeleteAlways kidding around Novaheart. Sorry about the party outfit...not good for a tricky heart!
ReplyDeleteNow, regarding the party ... I cook! I'll bring something wonderful to eat ...
ReplyDeleteBeautifully put! You have several really wonderful images in this poem that give this so much life!
ReplyDeleteSo--classical musician, grew up reading French lit instead of watching TV...pretty damn impressive little resume you got going.
Party is a great idea...my husband's Peruvian, and Peruvian food is the best (!) in Latin America (sorry Pamela!)... :P Seriously, while I'm fairly exhausted from this, I'll be sad when it's over. Feel like I've gotten to know a lot of folks here...
ReplyDeleteI agree Robin. Let's join up at We Write Poems

I am an art/prompt contributor I cater for
the funkey looney faction. It starts in May.
I'm old. Television wasn't around for much of
ReplyDeletemy growing up.Besides I went to boarding school
and that accounts for torch light under the bed covers.Lights out...very strict. The only racey books in the school library were in the French lit section. No one ever borrowed them and I am sure the librarian hadn't read them either!
hey Rall....nicely done again...boarding school?...hmmm must of got some flaws there..I got alllllll my flaws at public school and wherever
