Crushed by Love

completely captivated
overwhelmed by the
irresistible smell colour
and texture of my larger
than life sized love
warned by all
that this obsession
would lead to my demise

I know why some of us are
drawn to damage
drawn to danger
drawn to dross
like moths to the flame

I know how to read
I know they are right
I try
I try
to resist
to grapple
to struggle
too late

  1. So true, some of us are drawn to danger like a moth to the flame. Must be the bad girl buried inside me! Lindsay Lohan ... nah, more like Betty White!

Good one, Rall ... and that photo is spectacular! Where did you find it???

  5. I agree with CJ - get published, be famous, then we can all say we saw you here first.

  10. The above hamburger art work is by one of my favourite contemporary artists the brilliant
    David LaChapelle.

  11. Being very slow on the uptake, it wasn't until I read the comments that I realised the hamburger was your aphrodisiac! I had visualised a great big scruffy hunk of a man!

The naughty oops pic: is that from Candide?
Newly divorced and (temporarily) completely 'off' men, I went to see the musical version of Candide, and was bouleversée by that opening scene!

  12. I don't do scruffy hunks in hamburgers, men or poetry,Viv.You should never base your understanding of a poem on the comments. They could all be wrong and you could be right. That is one of the things I love about poetry.

The pic is from a book of 18th century German drawings. I chose the least controversial (so to speak) of them so as not to cause offense to the more culturally inhibited. Of course this not does apply to you raunchy Poms.

The rest of the drawings are extremely rude and titillating so I hesitate to give you the name as it may cause heart murmurs.

  13. Oh, I've already got those - no need for naughty pix!

I'm glad you're not into scruffy hunks and hamburgers - it would have destroyed my vision of you as a sophisticated young sybarite.

  14. That's one Big Burger, Rall! I'm glad we are both being witty this week (well, I hope I am!). You'll notice I put an "a" in Queans, which makes them altogether different creatures!

    WV: fatsusn!

  16. On the surface, this piece is all good fun and lightly humorous, but underneath there is a darker truth we all deal with...great as usual!

  17. Have you met Ms Short?
    She is quite a sport.
    A southern belle she aint
    Her plain talkin' is quaint
    Her hubby is cute
    Wears very nice boots
    She says he's so fine
    Back off gals he's mine

  18. You've managed to help me envision all my former husbands and lovers as food. Even without the image, these lines, "irresistible smell colour / and texture of my larger / than life sized love" might make me think of food. But, then, I'm a bit of a fool any large items covered in chocolate. You don't have chocolate?

  19. I love chocolate but wrote this poem to the hamburger pic.I envision my former husbands and lovers as giant pains in the arse. Must be age!

  22. Priceless poem. Loved it. There is nothing quite like a BIG hamburger! I was GOING to write a poem about a meal I was craving, but I passed on that subject....now I wish I'd gone for it. Too late. LOL.
