He Loves Me...He Loves Me Not

3WW..negate, baffle, elegant

black and white butterfly
dancing delicately
wings fluttering elegantly
touching the marigolds

i am baffled
by its unawareness
of my proximity
or am i so negated
by melancholy
that i don't exist
anymore

i watch in peace
in the soft afternoon
butterfly drunk on nectar
giving a magical performance

if he really loves me
butterfly will keep on dancing
this will be the sign

  1. A beautiful short story, elegantly told...

  2. Love the bit about the marigolds - they're as Australian as Sheila, in my book. Lovely poetry, I would end it with - this will be the sign, I wouldn't mention the last verse.

  6. They fly off so the better ones can come and drink the nectar.

Enjoyed perusing your sidebar. You're in Bali?

And I Totally Agree on Peter Sellers. "Being There." Now that was a great movie!!

  9. The butterfly's dance is entrancing and that drunken performance as you describe it that mesmerises us is perhaps it's defence mechanism to foil a predator. I loved this piece as I am a constant butterfly watcher.
