3 WW ...mist bulky resign
her specs misted up
as she fingered the bulky sweater
that took her two years to knit
he didn't even pack it
resigned that he would never return
she began to unravel the wool
winding it into balls planning
on knitting a blanket for her dog's bed
Unravelling..just for a little bit..but specs can be wiped..jumpers re-knitted for those who appreciate..and always stay loyal and true..Jae
ReplyDeleteWhen I crochet things, my whole heart goes into it. I can imagine the healing aspect of unraveling the knots. I'm glad that she found another place for it.
ReplyDeleteAwww.... how sad that he didn't even pack it but, good that she will use it again for her dog, who loves her unconditionally.
ReplyDeletegood for her at least it will go to better use.Great story told here.
ReplyDeleteYou tell quite a story in a few well-chosen words...
ReplyDeleteJust have a bonfire and burn it. The dog deserves better!
ReplyDeleteLove the ending:
ReplyDelete"she began to unravel the wool
winding it into balls planning
on knitting a blanket for her dog's bed"
Thank you all for your generous comments.
ReplyDeletePERFECT! I love the irony in this well-constructed poem. Really good writing.
ReplyDeletePoignant, but I felt there was a touch of underlying anger. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteSee - to me - anyone who takes two years to knit a sweater for her lover is displaying a certain degree of ambivalence.
ReplyDeleteThat, or she is a very poor knitter and he left it behind simply because it didn't fit!
Do I detect a certain archaic chauvinistic hue in the old dudesta Dodo wolf?
ReplyDeleteNot at all. Just offering a different perspective, 'tis all.
