patterns of beauty
on a coral reef
predictably wonderful
preordained nothing random
the prince of peace resides here
in this magnificence
pink purple tentacles wave
rhythmically
sigh
slide
sway
slowly
to the maestro's continuo
at the underwater reef concerto
fish in frills and stripes
glide and dance
in the playground of innocence
perfection is only fleeting
mercurial and elusive
the slinking serpent awaits
always present
always waiting
camouflaged
in the shape of
a starfish rock or cross
waiting
waiting for
the dump
tons of effluent and chemicals
destroy
destroy
destroy
this is his nature
he shares it with you
Now who is this party pooper raining on the economic viability of this nation. It is only salt water and stuff we can't eat, where are your priorities? It is only a world heritage area whatever that may mean to our present government.
ReplyDeleteIt is predicted that by 2030 the reef will be irreversibly damaged...no more snorkelling for you !
ReplyDeleteThis hits hard--sad what we are doing to our world's beauties. Hopefully we will have the courage to break this pattern of destruction. Great work here
ReplyDeleteA stark future we prepare for ourselves.. everything's destroyed and marauded.. and not always even for gain.. but simple greed and even stupid neglect.
ReplyDeleteSuch a sad ending to this. There is so much beauty in the ocean but, as you write and as I saw on a news documentary just last night--it is not impervious to destruction.
ReplyDeleteLove the ' underwater reef concerto', fish at 'glide and dance
ReplyDeletein the playground of innocence'. But it's not easy to relax, when 'slinking serpent awaits' 'camouflaged
in the shape of
a starfish rock or cross"
~ cool metaphors and style. xx
Agree with Jeff, you make it clear that unless we become an organic unit of caring, we will only see destruction on the planet.
ReplyDeleteOh, the generations to come who will never know such beauty. We've lost so much already.
ReplyDeleteOh so true.. everyone needs to change habits, esp. large conglomerates.
ReplyDeletewhat are we doing? it is becoming worse by the year instead of better, i fear for our grandchildren's grandchildren, can we really go on? at least your voice has spoken out, in beautiful terms, thanks, kevin
ReplyDeleteSo little of the ocean's life has even been discovered yet...we're killing off before we get a chance to save it...now that's sad.
ReplyDeleteThe ending is so tragic to such a beautiful coral reef beauty ~
ReplyDeletesigh....
ReplyDeletewe hope to see the barrier reef next year.
ReplyDeleteGlad you have decided sooner rather than later!
DeleteLike this very much.
ReplyDeleteDeep as the ocean, with all its predestined unpredictability and the struggle in life between beauty and ugliness.
We are surrounded by too much man made ugliness. !
DeleteAs you observed: "the slinking serpent awaits".
DeleteYep...seems I'm a serpent magnet:)
ReplyDeleteSpecial people always are; as you know.
