an evening out
i gaze into the
crashing waves
of a navy blue sea
beneath a soft butter moon
through the orange of a mojito
sipping to the clink of ice cubes
i scheme and plot to stay
i want to stay here
but not without you
if i stare hard enough
into the ocean
will you come for me
maybe
but you wont stay
i know
a lovely scene yet the moments seem to have lost some of its savor....
ReplyDeleteTaking it as it comes gets harder and harder even in this beautiful setting, or maybe especially there. The stare is intense, and the stare to the sea (as opposed to, say, a door), invites other interpretations as well: Relationships like waves, powerful and still always a wave.
ReplyDeleteSometimes memories are nice....but not enough.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful, the navy sea and butter moon....so poignant the missing of the other.......beautifully done!
ReplyDeleteIf only the eyes could act as magnets. Wonderful poem
ReplyDeleteWould liked to have read your Haiku Horizons poem but could not find it. Your other poetry is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThank you Melanie. I have two haiku linked to Haiku Horizons.
Delete"beneath a soft butter moon" . . . my kind of place. Especially with all those other intense colors. That navy blue is darkening though and the other colors will soon follow turning muddy even as the twilight fades. No wonder the melancholy . . . .
ReplyDeleteyou've enchanted me once again with the mention of the ocean, soft butter moon, and a drink that chimes with ice cubes. Australia and the South Pacific is lovely for their natural elements...loved the poem!!!
ReplyDeletePerhaps they will stay with you under the soft butter moon...it sounds inviting...
ReplyDeleteYes, sometimes all we want is that companionship. Very well written.
ReplyDeleteLonging... This too shall pass :)
ReplyDeleteMoving words!
