In October 1942 work began on the Death Railway ...the Burma Railway where extraordinary savagery was practised by the Japanese on the prisoners of war. There is a recent movie called " Railway Man" with Colin Farrell which is a true story that I recommend. The idea of a Japanese playing Mozart at that time was as likely as Hitler turning up to a Jewish wedding !
