only in oz
would these totally indestructible
weeds be called farmers friends
resistant to everything
bane of my existence
demon of the gardening world

after weeding the gardener
is transformed from head to toe
into a spiny ant eater
the two pronged thorns
cling to everything
even finding their way into
covered nooks and crannies
it seems
kafka is alive and well
in a desert garden
on the liverpool plains
my desert garden
yeah i know weeds like that, got some in my back yard, which i hope to pave soon

much love...
ouch...metamorphosis indeed!!
ReplyDeletePoppies? I don't recognize the flower, sorry, but I remember the field of poppies in OZ and my mom had a patch of bright red California poppies. Did they have thorns? The fuzzy prickles on your pant legs looks familiar. Hmmm. But I'm going to imagine a flower more akin to thistle and burdock. And then I m stopped short again by the Kafka reference I do not know. I did think of Ionesco's Rhinoceros, though in terms of being transformed into a beast for no reason at all . . . . when it comes to absurdity, I call out "Help!"
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness - the after effects look horrendous and, yes, just as Gregor's hairy, scary legs might well look.
ReplyDeleteYes I am reminded of Kafka when I look like this and it's great that someone knows what I am talking about:)
DeleteOh! Dawning light!
DeleteOuch. That looks so familiar. I don't know the reference to kafka either. But I do know how nice it is to lo'ok at a desert garden. I live in the desert, so it's pretty much a desert garden outside.
ReplyDeleteEverything has a place in this world and I am so glad that is is you garden not mine.
ReplyDeleteI love my beautiful desert garden ( minus weeds) with its cactus agaves pepper and olive trees...environmentally correct and sustainable!
DeleteOh yes, hard to escape them! And the only way to pull them out of the clothing is one at a time.
ReplyDeleteNo way...toss the clothes out:)
Delete(But I like your cacti)
ReplyDeleteOf course you do...you have impeccable taste. Oldegg is more of an azalea person (giggles)...never seen one in the Northern Rivers or out here on the Plains!!
DeleteI really admired your take on this prompt.. how you chose to depict the after effects!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully penned..!
xoxo
Ouch and dear Kafka..the world stuck some thorns in his side too...
ReplyDeleteYIKES. These look lethal. Nice piece.
ReplyDeleteYes, farmers might like those to keep the cattle in place.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, thought of "The Day of the Triffids" after reading this (and seeing the pictorial evidence), Rall! Maybe I am an olive tree after all and not a weed (thanks for the compliment).
ReplyDeletePara kalo :)
