Lady Bay Beach

 Carpe Diem Haiku Kai

Lady Jane  , now called Lady Bay,  is a beautiful secluded harbour beach with a stunning view of Sydney. It has been allocated as a nude beach . From the walkway above the beach to South Head, one is subjected to the sight of dangling male appendages , perhaps posing for photo opportunities or whatever , for the passersby. Curiously I have yet to see a naked woman on this beach, which may have something to do with the change of name from Lady Jane to Lady Bay.

Unknown to many, this area is potentially a jurisdictional nightmare. Any unseemly behaviour occuring in the water is the responsibility of the Maritime Services Authority, whereas if it occurs on the sand it is the responsibility of the National Parks and Wildlife .
If it occurs on the rocks it is officially a" grey area" and no government department or local council wants to take responsibility.

I have always wanted to swim at this beach , so next summer Rall is proposing (not nude but fully decked out in a wet suit of course) to give it a shot. No doubt I will be breaching a regulation touching upon political correctness offending nudists and/or other minorities.  If challenged I will clamber to the rocks, seeking jurisdictional immunity and remain there until a passing boat rescues me from my " grey area"

  2. How odd that only men visit the nudist beach, it looks like a nice place to swim .. loved the end poem and I'm hoping that your excursion into the bay next summer won't create a bureaucratic incident (not to speak of worse consequences!). The closing haiku of your haibun is simply so funny ... an all around enjoyable post ... enjoyed it very much. Bastet

And thinking of nudist camps, beaches and colonies, this came to mind:

  5. Love the Magpie Tale entry (which is why I stopped by) - and the rest of your work is a delight too. I hope she doesn't commit to the nunnery too soon...

  6. Thank you. The Magpie Tale entry does not make sense unless one reads the preceding haibun.

  7. Thoroughly enjoyed this!! I remember sunning on a beach near Cairns, oh it would have been a delight to have removed my suit. I would sunbathe nude on your Lady Bay. Cheers.
