there are so many songs
written about the moon
she finds solace in the corny ones
escaping
into their chocolate smooth melodies
hoping that once in a blue moon
something special will come her way
and she will be granted
just a short time
of peace joy and kindness
freed from her tormentor
freed from her duty
trying to remember
what it was like
what she was like
before she unwittingly
like Mr Rochester
embarked on the road to hell
I love those old tunes - the music of my parents' day, in which I was steeped growing up. Sigh. The woman in the poem seems to have a sad story. A tale nicely told.
Nice & the song is an added bonus.
ReplyDeleteHi Rallentanda, this is lovely and as Sumana says, the song is a real bonus. Thank you for sharing them.

ReplyDeleteGreat song, and very neat take on Jane's story. I wouldn't mind a sequel in which she finds a different story.
ReplyDeleteI too escape into anything chocolate and i escape too into the light of the moon - blue or otherwise.
ReplyDeleteNow I know what that aphorism--"The road to hell is paved with good intentions"--means: Like Mr. Rochester we get on the road unwittingly. Ha!
ReplyDeletePoignant poem. And oh, what a wonderful rendition of the song.
ReplyDeleteA poignant poem A shame that she embarked on a bad journey I really love this song
ReplyDeleteDark poem, suiting a dark moon. No corny, sentimental ballads from you, Rall!
