just before christmas
she felt renewed
an enormous weight lifted
from her crippled shoulders
found herself smiling again
pleased to be alive

ran into a distant acquaintance
not seen for many years
wow this is some marriage you have
you are positively glowing
she smiled politely
am actually getting a divorce
sorry...must fly
got to catch up
on a life
Midweek Motif - Poets United
Oh dear! Embarrassing moment!! Moving on seems to work on a healthy skin glow though!!
ReplyDeleteLove this! My divorce was in 1975, and still I remember how my stomach pain lifted as soon as I moved out.
ReplyDeleteSometimes marriage can pose a health risk :)
DeleteUh oh. Reality is shocking sometimes.
ReplyDeleteReality is mostly shocking...the reason so many people take drugs.
DeleteLuv the music you shared. This is an interesting poem. Enough wisdom and enough surprise
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday
much love...
haha I love your triumphant poem here. so liberating and exciting for the woman indeed.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful and poignant portrayal of the stark reality of life!
ReplyDeleteI COMPLETELY relate to this. It is exactly what happened to me.
ReplyDeleteSometimes the ending is the joyful beginning. You've portrayed that scenario beautifully!
ReplyDeleteReading this my mind pictured the many marriages that stuck together despite differences just to save face to live with hurt and disappointment all their lives.
ReplyDeleteAh! Yes, the miraculous end! One thing I've learned in my life is that things tend to happen much more quietly than we'd care for in most cases.Sigh!
