night driving
only a few trucks
on the road
just two words
to describe driving at night
bloody marvellous
whizzing through
the black velvet datk
it's midnight
earth still hot
from sweltering outback heat
night drive to the coast

Did a lot of that in years gone by in South Australia's mid north luckily avoided all the kangaroos I met!
ReplyDeleteI too enjoy driving at night. Your words gave voice to that unique joy.
ReplyDeleteI love "bloody marveĺlous"! I remember night driving when i still could see. Smiles.
ReplyDeleteHmm...Definitely apt words to describe night driving.
ReplyDeleteSounds like your anticipation of going to the coast enhances your enjoyment of night driving. So nice that you could enjoy the beauty of darkness.
ReplyDeletebloody marvellous...relish! Lovely to hear the speaker enjoys the night drives. Me, I hate driving at night with dimming and brightening of headlights. Only, in Finnish summer where the sun doesn't set, I could echoe these words. :D
ReplyDeleteDriving alone was (and is) always "think tank time" for me ... although I admit not at night any more. I enjoyed riding along with you, however!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I've done some of that. (Mostly as passenger, I must admit.) I especially loved the long, empty roads up through the Centre and around the Top End.
ReplyDeleteBloody marvelous, indeed, Rall! Your poem brought back some great memories of night drives... In the outback with the gorgeous star-filled sky above it's even better!
