Chris Rea - Driving home for christmas

driving home for christmas
to escape hordes of tourists
fleeing the northern winter
this time of the year

will spend the hols  in the outback
with the mozzies snakes
and assorted wild life
breathe fresh air
float in a pool under an electric blue sky
to the sounds of silence
only interrupted by the start up of a slasher
followed by expletives as it breaks down once again

maybe santa will leave a new one under the tree this year
(i say that every year)

  12. The pool, the sky! What is a "slasher" in your neck of the woods? A new world or a new word under the tree? Whichever, I'd LOVE to have an outback kind of holiday! Thank you for your comments and your poems and music choices all year long. I'm looking forward to more.

  13. A slasher is a hand held machine which runs on two stroke petrol that you use to cut grass when it is too tall for a mower to cut.Sort of an engine driven machete or scythe.
