Samy Chamine
Pandemic Blues
self isolation
some very pissed off goldfish
find themselves homeless
Sunday Muse # 105
Day 27
;

tortoise shell combs and
ribbons adorn jet black hair
beautiful silk kimonos
rustle as they move about
performing the tea ceremony
clinking of tea cups
high pitched twitterings and smiles
japanese wives at play
imaginary garden with real toads
Day 28

yes
tis a grievous sin
to harm someone
who only gives joy and causes
no hurt to anyone
yes
tis a cryin' shame
that that little girl
has no idea why
a million women
would swap places
with her
in a heart beat
(sigh)
imaginary garden with real toads
Day 29
Enjambment
let me not pretend
i didn't see the signs
just too awful a truth
to face so i pushed it aside
under the mat and removed
it from my thoughts
and when the inevitable happened
it came as a shock but not really a surprise
so a word of advice
listen to what you know
in spite of majority opinion telling you
you are wrong
you will pay dearly if you don't
facing truth is painful
not facing truth is even worse
Weekly Scribbles # 17 PSU
Day 30
poetry in the time of
the 21st century plague
comes as a welcome respite
from all the bad news
a poem a day
is not like the apple a day
keeping the doctor away
the virus is knocking at the door
bowling us out like skittles in a row
we don't hear bombs
the buildings are in tact
we still drink our morning coffee
and complain that sugar bananas are scarce
so it's hard to process this idea
that we are at war
a war that it is going to be hard to win
and won without a single gunshot

to my readers
i wish you the best of luck
stay safe and if i have given you
a glimmer of hope a laugh or smile
or a soupcon of food for thought
then my mission is accomplished
on this mortal coil
Chin up possums!
I guess a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do to stay safe. Glad to see you at the Muse Rall!
ReplyDeleteLOL love this bit of humour in the midst of chaos.
ReplyDeleteGreat Haiku! We are indeed pissed off goldfish, and homeless locked in our homes.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this. In B.C., the homeless population has been terribly affected by covid......the fact there are so many of them (rentals being both unavailable and unaffordable) makes it tough. In Victoria, a main street is lined with tents and an increasingly desperate situation. The elderly in facilities are the most impacted population of all. This virus has shone a light into two areas where the most vulnerable are being, to put it mildly, under-served.
ReplyDeleteNursing homes, prisons, and the homeless … the most vulnerable in the Covid crisis. A bit inconvenienced, we are safe in our homes; they, however, have nowhere to go and are swimming in the petri dish of pandemic.
DeleteWell that made me laugh - you do humor well
ReplyDeleteI love it!
ReplyDeleteThey do carp so!
ReplyDeletePoor little goldfish. I hope they get adopted soon. We in the Houston area have a few thousand of our 7 million plus people. I haven't heard how they are managing. No tents for them, under bridges or cardboard boxes for sleeping, or in the open. We are not nearly so si k as NYC, mostly because we were managing it sooner.
ReplyDelete..
Haha - I love the fishbowl verse!
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your unique viewpoint.
ReplyDeleteI so love this!!❤️
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your ekphrastic poem, Rall, and love the fine detail of tortoise shell combs and ribbons, and the use of sound: rustling silk kimonos. clinking tea cups and high pitched twitterings,
ReplyDeleteA beautiful description of the Japanese tea ceremony!!
ReplyDeleteSo many people want NOT to face the truth. I'm glad you're not one of them!
ReplyDeleteYou are on a roll!!❤️ This is so well done!
ReplyDeleteAll 5 of these are fantastic. You used the adage in the last one so effectively, and the enjambment was appropriate in the Day 29 poem because it felt like the lines were running.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the smiles, the laughter, the thoughts.
ReplyDeleteMore than a glimmer. Thanks so much for this.
