Coconut Interruptus
a perfect day
rays of sunshine
dappling the greenery
of palms and paw paw trees
their bikes leaning against the shed
her
lying outstretched
in the elysian expanse
of tropical splendour
ruffled hair
holes in her fish net stockings
toes peeping through
him
about to realise
his concupiscent desires
feeling triumphant
at long last
when
a large coconut crashes
(funeral on friday )
expanse
concupiscent-
triumphant
shed
toes
greenery
fish
ray
ruffle
paw
coconut
elysian
That ending! It was such a stunning portrait and then bam lol
ReplyDeleteYes, if only Newton had have sat under a coconut tree...
ReplyDeleteA bit of poetic justice, eh?
ReplyDeleteBang! And a coconut ends it all! Hahaha!
ReplyDeleteDid not expect the ending...at least not the funeral. I was definitely lulled by the preceding images (except for one excursion to the dictionary). :)
ReplyDeleteThat was great! Just when you think you've got it made...ain't that life.
ReplyDeleteAnd the moral is: Best not to plan assignations under a coconut tree!
ReplyDeleteYour ending certainly had a punch!
Loved that Didn't see that coming after such idyllic and hopeful start
ReplyDeleteHe should have been open with his feelings for her not just watching from under the palm tree. Better luck with the angels!
ReplyDeleteOuch! Life (and coconuts) can be so very surprising. I really like that the closing line of the poem reads like the opening of a story.
ReplyDeletethis was like a proverb with a warning never to be underneath a coconut tree.
