Weekly Scribblings # 37

poetry in the time of
the 21st century plague
comes as a welcome respite
from all the bad news

the virus is knocking at the door
bowling us out like skittles in a row
we don't hear bombs
the buildings are in tact
we still drink our morning coffee
and complain that sugar bananas are scarce
so it's hard to process this idea
that we are at  war
a war that it is going to be hard to win
and won without a single gunshot

to my readers
i wish you the best of luck
stay safe and if i have given you
a glimmer of hope a laugh or smile
or a soupcon of food for thought
then my mission is accomplished
on this mortal coil
Chin up possums!

  1. You have indeed given us a glimmer of hope and yes, I am smiling. If these were the last words I ever read, it would be ok.

  2. A cheery "Chin up!" to those who are about to grieve is a good way to exit, it seems to me. :)

  3. I especially love the last verse – and most of all that final, very Aussie last line.
