Good Advice from Grandma - Writers Pantry # 76

In difficult times, you move forward in small steps.
Do what you have to do, but little by little.
Don't think about the future, or what may happen tomorrow.

Wash the dishes.
Remove the dust.
Write a poem
Chat to Polly
Put the kettle on
Make a soup.
Bake a cake
Take joy in all the small things
Move slowly in  small steps
Rest a little.
Praise yourself.
Take another step.
Then another.
You won't notice, but your steps will grow more and more.
And the time will come when you can think about the future without crying.

  1. Clearly we should isolate and take care to avoid contact with others. We have managed for well over a year now with the Covid crisis and it is punishing us once more in some states. Avoid risks at all costs. Perhaps chopping onions would help!

  3. I think this is advice to be taken to heart. Some people try to rush through difficult times, hurry to make choices and decisions they need time to think about first. Even in the most difficult times, the little things in life continue.

  7. Haven't stopped by in a while and found these two latest poems such a comfort, the strength in both nurturing me and, hopefully, you through these difficult days. The wolf poem is such a celebration, and this grandmother poem brings sheer grittiness. Both lovely.
